Best Airports in San Francisco for Private Jet Flights
The Bay Area has more viable private jet airports than almost any US metro, which makes the choice consequential. Landing 40 miles from where you need to be is a real risk here.
- San Francisco International (SFO): 13 miles south of downtown and the fastest access to the city itself. Dedicated FBO facilities keep private movements separate from the main terminals, and international customs and immigration are handled on site, which matters on inbound transatlantic and transpacific flights. The trade-off is congestion: SFO is a major commercial hub, and private traffic can face delays at peak times that quieter fields avoid.
- Oakland International (OAK): Across the Bay, roughly 20 minutes from downtown San Francisco outside of traffic and closer still to the East Bay. Noticeably less congested than SFO with quicker turnarounds, several FBOs, and long runways that handle heavy and ultra-long-range aircraft comfortably. Often the better operational choice when speed on the ground matters more than proximity on the map.
- San José Mineta (SJC): The Silicon Valley airport, and the obvious answer for Palo Alto, Mountain View, Cupertino or Menlo Park. Full-service FBOs and dedicated private facilities, with a considerably shorter drive to the Valley than either SFO or Oakland can offer.
- Napa County (APC): Small, quiet and 50 miles north of the city, sitting at the southern end of Napa Valley. Private traffic almost exclusively, minimal ground time, and the only sensible option if wine country is your destination rather than the city. Runway length limits it to light and midsize aircraft.
