High Altitude Changes the Aircraft Plan

The circuit sits more than 2,000 metres above sea level, while Toluca is higher still. High elevation reduces air density, which affects aircraft acceleration, lift and engine performance. This matters most on departure. A jet that can fly the route under standard conditions may need a reduced passenger or baggage load, a fuel stop or a different departure time when operating from Toluca.

Charter Permits and Passenger Information for Mexico

The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is 4.304 kilometres long. Sunday’s race covers 71 laps and 305.354 kilometres. The circuit is known for its high elevation, long main straight and stadium section, where the cars pass through the former baseball venue before the podium ceremony.

Formula 1 returned to Mexico City in 2015 after a long absence. The current configuration replaced part of the former Peraltada corner with the stadium section, creating one of the most recognisable spectator areas on the calendar.

For the 2026 event, the organiser announced MXN 202 million of work at the circuit. The programme includes resurfacing in selected areas, drainage and kerb maintenance, and improvements to the pit building and paddock. The 2026 renovation plan keeps the existing 4.304-kilometre layout.
