Prijzen voor Prive Jet

Most people asking what a private jet costs are pricing a single trip: one aircraft, one route, one set of dates. That is on-demand charter, and it is where the majority of our enquiries start. You book an aircraft for that journey alone, with no membership fee and no capital tied up in an asset.

The alternatives sit further along the same spectrum. Jet cards fix an hourly rate against hours bought in advance, fractional ownership buys a share in a specific aircraft, and full ownership brings the aircraft and its running costs onto your own books. Each trades flexibility for predictability at a different level of annual flying.

Charter pricing starts with the aircraft category and the flying time, then shifts with where the aircraft has to position from, what the airports charge to handle it, and how much demand sits on those dates.

Uurtarieven per vliegtuigklasse

Almost every charter conversation starts with an hourly rate. It covers the aircraft and its crew for an hour in the air, and it is a useful anchor, but it is not the price of a trip. Positioning, airport charges, catering and overnight costs sit on top and vary far more between trips than the rate itself does.

Rates also move within each category. A ten-year-old light jet and a current-generation one carry the same badge and different price tags, so treat the lower end of each range as a well-positioned older aircraft and the upper end as a newer cabin in demand.

Vliegtuigklasse Passagiersstoelen Hourly Rate
Turboprop 4 – 8 €2,200 – €3,000
Zeer lichte jet 4 – 5 €3,500 – €5,250
Light Jet 6 – 7 €4,000 – €6,000
Super Light Jet 7 – 8 €5,000 – €7,250
Middelgroot vliegtuig 7 – 9 €5,750 – €8,750
Supermiddelgroot vliegtuig 8 – 10 €8,000 – €11,500
Heavy Jet 10 – 14 €9,750 – €14,000
Ultralang bereik 12 – 16 €12,250 – €16,000+
VIP-passagiersvliegtuig 15 – 30 €17,500+

Worth knowing that flying time is not billed time. Most operators apply a minimum daily charge, so a 50-minute hop to Paris will not be invoiced as 50 minutes. The route examples below give a better feel for what a real trip costs.

Example Charter Prices

These examples are intended as a guide based on current market conditions. Final charter pricing will vary depending on aircraft availability, travel dates, routing and any additional service requirements.

Van Parijs naar Nice

The most requested private jet route in Europe, according to recent Avinode marketplace data, and a good illustration of how little of a short-sector quote is actually flying time.

Paris Le Bourget to Nice
Citation CJ3+ (Light Jet)
Estimate: €8,250 one-way
Flight time: 1h 20m

Departures from France are subject to the solidarity tax, banded by distance and charged per passenger rather than per flight. A domestic sector like this one falls in the lowest band at €420 per passenger on a jet, or €210 on a turboprop. So a light jet carrying 6 passengers on this route adds over €2,500 on top of the charter itself.

Van Londen naar Ibiza

Two and a half hours, and one of the busiest leisure routes in European private aviation between June and September. Pricing here is driven by demand and parking rather than by distance.

London Biggin Hill to Ibiza
Phenom 300 (Super Light Jet)
Estimate: €17,500 one-way
Flight time: 2h 10m

Ibiza restricts private parking through the summer, so aircraft staying more than a few hours often reposition and return rather than wait. Friday and Sunday departures price highest, and the same trip midweek in May or late September typically comes in well under this figure.

Madrid to Miami

A long transatlantic sector where range, crew duty limits and operating costs replace positioning as the main drivers of price. Aircraft capable of this crossing non-stop are a small pool, and one is rarely sitting in Madrid, so a positioning leg from elsewhere in Europe is common.

Madrid to Miami
Gulfstream G650 (Ultra Long Range)
Estimate: €95,000 one-way
Flight time: 9h 45m

Westbound flights run roughly an hour longer than the return, so the same aircraft prices differently in each direction.

Charter quotes vary more than most people expect, and the same trip can price differently from one week to the next. Three things account for most of that movement.

Aircraft, Distance and Positioning

The aircraft is the largest input: bigger cabins burn more fuel and carry larger crews. Distance sets the flying time, though not proportionally, since handling and crew costs apply whatever the sector length.

Positioning is the part that clients least expect. If the right aircraft is elsewhere, it flies empty to reach you and often repositions again afterwards. Both legs sit in the quote, and on short trips, they can rival the cost of the flight itself.

Airport, Season and Timing

Landing, handling and parking charges differ sharply between airports, and slot-controlled fields cost more than regional alternatives. Rates then climb over summer and the Christmas period, with major events adding surcharges past €5,000.

On multi-day trips the aircraft either waits, incurring daily minimums and crew accommodation, or repositions and returns. Which is cheaper depends on the gap.

Fuel and Regulatory Costs

Fuel is the most volatile element in charter pricing, passed through either as higher hourly rates or as a separate surcharge.

Overflight permits, customs, de-icing and passenger taxes are individually modest, but they appear in a full quote rather than arriving later. Onboard extras, including catering and wi-fi are quoted separately.

Market update , July 2026: Jet fuel is running around two-thirds above 2025 levels, with the global benchmark at roughly $149 per barrel in mid-July. Prices eased through June as Strait of Hormuz traffic recovered, then rose sharply again this month following renewed disruption. Operator rates and fuel surcharges reflect these movements, and quotes are priced against current conditions rather than standing figures. For a fuller breakdown, see how much jet fuel costs.

How to Reduce Private Jet Charter Costs

Global Charter tip: Before fixing your departure airport, ask where suitable aircraft are already positioned. A 20-minute drive to a different airport can sometimes save thousands in repositioning costs.

Hoe zit het met ‘empty legs’?

Empty legs are repositioning flights operated without passengers, offered at a discount because the aircraft is flying regardless. The appeal is obvious: same aircraft, same service, a fraction of the price.

The trade-off is control. Aircraft, route and timing are all fixed, and because an empty leg exists only because of someone else's booking, it can be rescheduled or cancelled at short notice, sometimes on the day. For anyone with firm plans or onward connections, that rarely works. For travellers genuinely flexible on both timing and routing, it can be worth watching.

Jet Cards, Memberships, and Fractional Ownership

Jet cards pre-purchase a block of hours at a fixed rate, typically from 25 hours upward, which buys rate certainty and guaranteed availability rather than a lower price. They tend to make sense somewhere above 25 flying hours a year. Memberships work similarly, usually with a joining fee against preferential rates. Global Charter offers tailored jet card memberships for clients at that level.

Fractional ownership is a larger commitment: a share in a specific aircraft alongside other owners, with guaranteed access to a set number of hours annually. It generally competes with charter above roughly 50 hours a year, though the capital outlay and the exit terms matter as much as the hourly economics.

Below those thresholds, on-demand charter is usually both cheaper and more flexible, with no capital committed and a different aircraft available for every trip.

How Much Does it Cost to Buy a Private Jet?

Buying is the largest commitment in private aviation, and the range is wide. Category, age and specification drive most of it. New prices below; pre-owned aircraft reduce the acquisition cost considerably, though hours flown and maintenance status affect what that saving is worth.

Vliegtuigcategorie Tweedehands van Nieuw van Example Models
Zeer lichte jet €1.3 million €3.5 million Phenom 100, Citation Mustang
Light Jet €2.5 million €5.25 million Citation CJ3+, Hawker 400XP

VIP-passagiersvliegtuig €70 million+ €385 million+ BBJ, ACJ319

Annual Cost of Private Jet Ownership

Fixed costs are usually 2 to 5 per cent of the purchase price each year. This covers hangarage, insurance, crew salaries, training and scheduled maintenance. For a light jet, this is around €400,000 per year. For an ultra-long-range aircraft, it can exceed €2 million.

Variable costs apply to each flight hour. These range from around €1,000 on a light jet to €3,000 or more on a large cabin aircraft, and cover fuel, engine reserves and landing fees. Insurance is included in the fixed costs above and ranges from €10,000 per year on a light jet to €400,000 on a heavy jet.

Private Jet Cost FAQs

How much does it cost to rent a private jet for a multi-day trip?

Multi-day charters combine flight hours with the time the aircraft spends at the destination. Alongside the flying, clients pay for crew accommodation, airport parking, and daily minimum usage rates, which typically add several thousand euros per day.

It depends on the aircraft and the sector. London to New York rates typically start from €60,000 on a heavy jet and €70,000 on an ultra-long-range aircraft. Westbound flights cost more than the return, since the jet stream adds an hour or more to the crossing. Positioning, airport charges and fuel surcharges move the final figure.

Are there hidden costs when renting a private jet?

Not with a properly structured quote. Positioning, landing and handling fees, catering and crew accommodation on multi-day trips all sit outside the hourly rate, but every element should appear itemised before you book rather than on the final invoice.
