Private Jet Bristol

Bristol is the main departure point for the south west, with an airport 8 miles south of the city that serves Bath, North Somerset and the wider region as much as Bristol itself. For most of the area there is no realistic alternative short of driving to London.

The catchment runs north as well. The Cotswolds sit within an hour, though the airport's position south of the city means the drive is longer from that side than the distance suggests, which is where the smaller Gloucestershire fields occasionally come into play.

Bristol Private Jet Airports

Bristol Airport handles almost all private charter for the south west, with a couple of smaller fields to the north worth knowing about.

  • Bristol Airport (BRS): 8 miles south of the centre, around 25 minutes by road and closer still from Bath and the Mendips. A private terminal separate from the commercial building, a runway taking most aircraft in charter service, and customs on site for international arrivals.
  • Cotswold Airport (GBA): 40 miles northeast at Kemble, and the better option for the northern Cotswolds, Cirencester and Tetbury. Takes turboprops and light jets rather than anything larger, so the aircraft has to suit the airport.
  • Gloucestershire Airport (GLO): 50 miles north at Staverton, serving Cheltenham and Gloucester. Similar size limits to Kemble, and it comes into its own around race week.

In practice Bristol handles the bulk of it, and the northern fields are worth raising only when a light aircraft suits the trip anyway.

Popular Aircraft for Bristol Private Jet Hire

Most of what leaves Bristol is a European trip inside three hours, so the aircraft decision comes down to group size more often than range.

Paris, Amsterdam and the shorter city routes sit well within light jet range, and a Citation CJ3 is the type we place most on them, with turboprops a sensible option for smaller groups.

Nice, Barcelona and the Mediterranean push the flight time past two hours, which is where a full cabin and luggage start to matter. A Phenom 300 or Citation XLS handles those comfortably, and a Hawker 800XP is the better choice for larger groups or a heavier load.

Private Jet Access to Bath and the South West

Bristol Airport serves a far wider area than the city, and its position 8 miles south of the centre works in favour of most of it. Bath is around 30 minutes away by road, closer to the airport than large parts of Bristol itself, which makes it the practical arrival point for anyone heading to the city or to the surrounding Somerset countryside. The Mendips, Wells and the Chew Valley all sit within a similar distance.

Further south the picture divides. Exeter is typically served by Bristol, around 80 minutes down the M5, while Cornwall is better covered by Newquay, which takes private traffic and saves several hours of driving from the far west.

The Cotswolds are the exception to the pattern. The southern end around Bath, Castle Combe and Tetbury is comfortable from Bristol, but the drive lengthens quickly towards Cirencester and Cheltenham, where Cotswold Airport at Kemble or Gloucestershire at Staverton can be the better choice if the aircraft is light enough to use them.

Chartering from Bristol

Bristol is a straightforward market to book in. The aircraft that suit most trips out of here are light and super light types, and there are enough of them based within reach of the south west that short notice is rarely a problem outside the summer months.

Tell us where you are going and how many of you there are, and we will come back with options and a price for each. Everything from the FBO to the catering and the car at the other end is arranged once you have picked one.

The pinch point is May to September, when the European routes fill and the smaller aircraft go first. Request a quote and we will get you options the same day.
