Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) handles the largest share of private jet traffic in the region, sitting 20 miles southwest of downtown with dedicated FBO facilities separate from the commercial terminals. Two further airports serve the metro area, and the right one depends on which part of it you're heading for.
- Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW): 20 miles southwest of downtown and the closest field to Dearborn, which makes it the practical choice for Ford. Full customs and immigration on site, so international arrivals clear here, and the runway length takes anything in charter service including VIP airliners. Busier than the alternatives, with commercial traffic to work around.
- Coleman A. Young International Airport (DET): 6 miles northeast of downtown and the shortest transfer to the city centre and the Renaissance Center. General aviation only, so no commercial schedules, and it handles light through midsize jets comfortably. The usual answer for a downtown meeting where ground time matters more than aircraft size.
- Oakland County International Airport (PTK): 30 miles northwest in Waterford, and the closest field to Bloomfield Hills, Birmingham, Troy and the Auburn Hills corridor. One of the busiest business aviation airports in Michigan, with substantial FBO infrastructure and no commercial traffic. The default for Stellantis and for anyone based in the northern suburbs.
Willow Run Airport (YIP) also takes private traffic, 30 miles west of downtown, though it handles mostly cargo and is rarely the first choice for charter.
