Nantucket Memorial Airport (ACK)
Nantucket Memorial Airport sits just three miles southeast of downtown, close enough that the drive rarely takes more than ten minutes regardless of where on the island you're headed. It's a small, easy airport to move through, without the scale or queues of a major commercial hub, which suits the kind of trip most clients are making here: a short hop in for the weekend or the season, not a long-haul arrival needing extensive ground time.
There's no alternate airport on the island, so ACK is the only way in by air. Surfside and Nobadeer face the open Atlantic with real surf, while Jetties and Children's Beach sit closer to town in calmer, more sheltered water. Memorial Day through early September is when the island is genuinely open in the way most visitors picture it, restaurants fully staffed, ferries running at full schedule, and a year-round population of around 11,000 that swells to more than 50,000 at the height of summer. Outside that window, a lot of the island quietly closes down.
Late July and August are the busiest weeks, with Labor Day marking the last real surge before things ease. September holds much of the summer's character with noticeably lighter crowds, and by October the island has largely reverted to its year-round pace.
