Many clients flying to Mykonos begin their trip in Athens, particularly those arriving long-haul before the short hop out to the island. A night or two in the city pairs naturally with the island leg, with the Acropolis and the Athens Riviera all within easy reach. Athens is also the hub for wider Cyclades travel, so Mykonos is often combined with Santorini, Paros or other islands across a single itinerary, with the short sector times making multi-stop trips straightforward to arrange.

Slots are harder to come by, parking fills up, and aircraft often have to drop passengers and reposition elsewhere rather than wait on the ground.

Mykonos Travel Guide

While the island stays popular from late May to early October, the bulk of charter flights to Mykonos run through July and August. This is peak season: lively beach clubs, glamorous events and warm, dry weather suited to luxury villa stays and private yacht charters. During this busy period, hotels, villas and the best restaurant tables are booked months ahead, so the earlier the planning the better.

For clients who would rather avoid the crush, the shoulder months are worth considering. May, June and September offer milder temperatures and fewer crowds while still being warm enough to enjoy the beaches, and September in particular keeps the sea warm for swimming as the August crowds thin out. One thing to plan around: the Meltemi, a strong northerly wind that blows across the Aegean from roughly early July to mid-September, at its strongest in late July and August. It brings welcome relief from the heat but can make the sea choppy, which is worth bearing in mind for anyone combining a stay with a yacht charter.
