Chicago Private Jet Airports
Chicago has more viable private jet airports than almost any US city, and the right departure point usually comes down to where in the metro area you're starting from.
- Chicago Executive (PWK): 18 miles northwest of downtown and the busiest private field in the area. Dedicated exclusively to general aviation, with multiple premium FBOs, 24-hour operations and no commercial traffic to work around, so departures are quick and rarely delayed. The natural choice for the North Shore and the Barrington corridor, and around 30 minutes from the Loop.
- Chicago Midway (MDW): 10 miles southwest of downtown and the quickest departure from the city centre at roughly 20 minutes by road. Scheduled airline traffic shares the field, but private flights run through dedicated FBOs separate from the main terminal.
- Chicago O'Hare (ORD): 17 miles northwest of downtown, with private terminals and full customs. Slot procedures and commercial priority make it awkward for most charter flying, though it suits the largest aircraft and international departures where customs is needed on the return.
- Gary/Chicago International (GYY): Across the state line in Indiana, 25 miles southeast of the Loop via the Skyway. Lower landing and handling fees than the Illinois fields, minimal congestion, and a runway approaching 9,000ft that takes any aircraft category. Convenient for northwest Indiana and the southern suburbs, and worth considering when cost or discretion leads the decision.
