Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LPL) handles private traffic through a dedicated FBO on the south side of the field, 7 miles from the city centre and around 20 minutes by road. The runway takes anything up to heavy jets, customs are available for international arrivals, and the terminal is small enough that the walk from car to aircraft is short.
Manchester is the other option, and an unusually close one. It is 35 miles east, with larger FBO infrastructure and a wider choice of based aircraft, which makes it the better answer for anyone in east Cheshire or travelling that way. Liverpool holds the advantage for Merseyside, the Wirral and north Wales, where the drive is considerably shorter.
